Welcome To Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry
Chapter of IAPM - TNPCIAPM

The National Body of IAPM was founded in 1949 by Dr. V. R. Khanolkar as a non- commercial organisation. The State Chapter of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry was started in February in the year 1975/76 in the Pathology Lecture Hall of Madras Medical College by Dr. Sarasabharathi (Pathologist) and Dr. Gnanadesikan (Microbiologist). It was perhaps the FIRST State Chapter to be born!! Regular meetings and discussions were held. The Chapter grew and was strengthened by the efforts of Major General Dr. C. S. V. Subramaniam and Dr. Panchanadam Madanagopalan who took over as office bearers of the Chapter. The meetings, interesting slide discussions, CMEs and workshops were regular affairs conducted once in 2 months, not only in Chennai (then Madras), but in other parts of the state as well, thus giving an equal opportunity and visibility to everyone. Their term of office culminated in the hugely successful conduct of APCON in Chennai in the year 1991. It paved the way for more glory to the Chapter.

The TNPCIAPM Oration was instituted in the APCON. It is the only Oration till date in the name of a Chapter and not in the name of any Individual person. A unique distinction indeed!! A sizable contribution was made towards the building of the official Headquarters of the IAPM at Cuttack. Gold medals were instituted for UG and PG students to be awarded every year by the TN Dr MGR Medical University This Chapter had the proud privilege of hosting 3 APCON conferences The chapter has also had office bearers in the national body including President, Vice President, Joint Secretary, Joint Treasurer to name a few. The Chapters members have been and continue to be part of the Editorial Board of IJPM, the journal published by IAPM. The chapter has had many stalwarts and doyens who have made a significant contribution to the fields of Pathology and Microbiology both at the national and International arena. The chapter continues to grow due to the untiring efforts of the successive office bearers at the helm of affairs and inspirational guidance and support of the senior members and youthful exuberance and energy of the younger members.
